How to do laundry

It's always wonderful when the husband offers to help with the household chores. With a new baby, two dogs and a full time job the house can look (and smell) pretty disastrous by the end of the week. My DH (darling husband) "did the laundry" to help out. How lovely you say? Perhaps.

Not that men follow directions, but if they did here is how I picture him writing them for other men to follow.

Step One: Toss random assortment of clothes into the washing machine. Don't worry about separating colors or checking pockets, it's just a waste of time.

Step Two: Free pour detergent - you can eyeball how much you need, right?

Step Three: Fabric softener - fa get about it

Step Four: Don't worry about the water temperature, whatever it was on last should be fine. Hot means it gets cleaner!

Step Five: Throw entire load into the dryer. If the wife doesn't want her lingerie or silk blouse dried, they never should be near the dirty clothes.

Step Six: Cleaning out the lint trap is for sissies. If the clothes aren't dry after and hour, just dry them for another hour.

Step Seven: You are now done! (The wife can fold and put away the clothes, that's not part of "doing laundry".)

Thanks for the help hon. I really like my new light blue shirt (used to be white) and I didn't really need that wool breast pad anymore anyways. What's that new orange tie-dye effect on the whites? Oh, there was a vitamin in the pocket. "Patting down" the pockets will only help you find something large like a pen (hopefully), not money, credit cards, screws or vitamins. Also, you need to check the bras for disposable breast pads. They sure do come apart in the dryer!

I love you honey, thanks for trying!

Tagged - back at 'ya

What were you doing ten years ago?
I was working at Chapel Hill Country Club getting ready to start my Senior year at Carolina. I had just started dating my boss (now husband). I also think this was the month my landlord changed the locks and locked me out of my apartment because I would not pay him rent which was because he refused to fix my A/C that had been broken for over a month. I had to spend the night down the street at my exboyfriend's house along with the new girlfriend (now wife).

Favorite snacks?
My sweet tooth from pregnancy has gone away, so no more ice cream disguised as my daily intake of dairy. Now it's peanuts (in the shell 'cause it's baseball season), cheese (yes, like Gwen I'll take it any way I can get it, except for out of a spray can) and fruit.

5 things on my to do list today?
Make it to work "early"
Catch up on pod casts
Do a weekly blog
Clean my house!
Exercise (yeah right!)

Things I would do if I was a billionaire?
Start a foundation to help underprivileged children.
Travel all around Europe eating yummy food and drinking lots of wine.
Let Clint get a sailboat.

5 jobs I have had?
Pizza girl
Pet sitter
Beverage cart girl
Bartender
Mommy (this is definitely a job) ;-)

5 places I have lived?
London, England
Nice, France
Kit Carson, CO
Santa Barbara, CA
Charleston, SC

5 random things people don't know about me?
I fall asleep holding my thumbs between my first and second fingers
I have an irrational fear of losing a finger in the garbage disposal
I like to eat my muffins cut in half longitudinally (so you have a muffin top in each bite)

I don't like swimming because the water gets in my ears
My super power in my dreams is that I can fly, but only as high as people's shoulders which means they can pull me down. Does this mean I'm not free?

5 CD's I would take to a desert island?
Cake, Prolong the Magic
Billy Joel's Greatest Hits, Vol I & II
Indigo Girls, 1200 Curfews
Jim Croche, Greatest Hits
Edwin McCain - any

Back to Work

This was Addy's first week of school and my first week back at work. In case Mom hasn't given you all updates already here are the chaotic tings going on in the House of Wood. In true fashion we figure, why one life change when you can have three or four.

  1. Clint is shopping for a new "daddy car" (future post when it's bought). He hydroplaned in a thunderstorm on I-40 coming home from work. After spinning several times (it's like a fish story, he's gone from saying 2 now upwards of 6), he hit the center divider and totaled the Porsche. Now he is looking at convertables with a backseat big enough for a car seat. So practical.
  2. We sold our house on Sunday. I knew it would go fast since I was hoping for the opposite. I did wait until Thursday to tell my boss that I would be moving to Winston. I figured telling them on my first day back is bad form, especially when everybody kept saying how happy they were that I was back.
  3. I think I have negotiated a transfer to my Winston Salem branch. Apparently it's not a surprise to your boss that you are going to move when they know your husband is working several counties and one area code away. They had already talked amongst themselves about how they could make it work. Yippee!
  4. We are off to tour the finalists in the new home selection game. Hopefully we'll be making an offer today since we have to leave the current home on the 8th.
  5. Addy is doing great at "school". It took her a day or two to adjust, but she is doing well with the new routine and making friends. One good thing about daycare is that Addy does all her dirty diapers while she's there. One bad thing; her new friends share germs and now she and I have a cold!

More to come later...

Runny Nose

I was looking through the binders of Clint's grade school work and found this poem that I thought I'd share. I can't wait to have Addy's schoolwork so we can compare the two!

Runny Nose

By Clint Wood, age 8

It's just not funny,

When your nose is runny,

You feel all soggy,

Hoarse and froggy,

Your throat is scratching,

The germs are hatching,

You know it's catching -

KERCHOOO!!
